A Little History

(Click for a larger map.)
The Kingdom of Feldra is a moderately-sized kingdom well-known for its extremely magical environs. Much of the kingdom is wilderness, and is traditionally believed to be occupied by all variety of magical creatures. The human-inhabited parts of the land are regulated not only by the feudal system of ranked nobles but also by the Ancient Feldran Enchantments, which enforce the rules and traditions of the kingdom as laid down by powerful wizards millennia ago.
Rydia is a very small merchant kingdom that borders Feldra to the west. It is a very wealthy kingdom both due to natural mineral deposits in the eastern mountains and very good seaports for trading with the Northern peoples. Rydians have a reputation for high culture and intellectual pursuits.
Dorance is a very large region to the north, held by a number of barbarian warlords.
Fifteen years ago, Feldra conquered Rydia and held it as a close protectorate for seven years. During that time, Feldra unsuccessfully attempted to expand into Dorance, but the costly and violent war eventually reached a stalemate. Shortly thereafter, King Johan withdrew from Rydia and made peace, and the countries have been peaceful trading partners for the last eight years.
The Dragon of Feldra appeared five years ago. Anyone who has attempted to combat it has died. The Kingdom currently has no Knights in residence.
Johan Feldra is a widower. Plagues and blights are extremely common in the Kingdom, and his wife Queen Ellisonde died four years ago of a plague while attempting to care for others with the affliction.
